We were enjoying singing so much that we decided to have an X factor stage in our class room last week! Mrs. Mullineux made a stage and I found a microphone and tape recorder so that we could tape ourselves singing. We had great fun singing all week and achieved some of our creative learning and literacy goals whilst we did it! Just take a look at the stars of the future!!
This was a reply to the letters we wrote in reception to the snails. We had spent two days creating a park for the snails and insects in our garden to play in. The children used leaves, twigs , flowers, plants and logs to make slides, roundabouts and trees for the snails. Then we all helped to write letters to the snails to tell them about their new park. We thought about all the sounds in the words and we all signed the letters in our very best handwriting.( all signatures can be seen on our writing display in the classroom) We taped the letters to the tree in the garden. The children were amazed to see the letters had gone the next day! They were excited to see a letter addressed to them in our classroom from the snails! |
In Maths this week we have been concentrating on using our times tables and being able to write numbers as words. We used Discovery Puzzlemaker to create our own crosswords to practice these skills.
Today was another first for Charlestown Primary, For the first time every there was a joint Year 5 and 6 ‘Golden Time.’ Not only that, but also children from the two classes were able to sign up for four different activities. Their options were:
The children really enjoyed themselves and have Mrs Batty to thank for such a great idea. We’re all looking forward to next week!
This week we have been looking at Greek Myths and legends as part of our new topic. We’ve read all about Theseus and the Minotaur and Perseus and the fearsome Gorgon Medusa. As part of our Literacy we decided to ‘act out’ the punctuation from sections iof the story to show just how much punctuation we need to include in our own writing next week.
We look rather silly doing it, but it’s made us realise how many of those little marks we need to include to be understood. Here are our videos – apologies about the sound levels!

We are going to have a Traditional Carol Service at Pendleton Church on Friday 18th December. We haven’t done this before so it’s a first! We will be inviting the whole community. We will have some traditional Christmas readings, Carols and additional items all performed by the children.
