At Charlestown Primary we try and use as many ‘Web 2.0′ tools as possible to make our learning as exciting as possible. These tools help us to gather and present information in a really interesting way such as this using Animoto – it’s free use too!

It’s growing time in Year One (apart from the children and some of their new teeth!!).
We’ll be planting a variety of seeds and bulbs this term and watching them grow in our very own ‘classroom garden’.
We’ll keep you posted (and add some pics).
The potatoes will hopefully provide us with a tasty treat when we harvest them in the summer.

Mrs Batty has been working very hard with the children of the Junior Department on a new song enjoy!

At the end of last half term Year Six performed a song for Year Five as a little suprise. It was very complicated with different words for different groups, actions and percussion too! Here is a short extract of the performance.
In Year 1 we have been learning about the children who worked at Quarry Bank Mill, Styal 200 years ago. We have pretended to be the children and we have written some letters home to our parents. Here they are:

Today we worked on openings in Year Six using :
There was some really good quaility discussion and writing and Mr. Kirkpatrick was very pleased. We also decided to take extra care with our presentation skills and voted on our tables for the children that we thought had taken the most care. Here are their books for you to see!
This week we have been looking carefully at what life was like for those children who were lucky enough to go to school during the Victorian era. We compared their experiences to our own by reading parts of Dicken’s ‘Nicholas Nicolby’ and doing research on the internet.
Once again we used mind maps to plan out our ideas and paid particular attention to finding our own style and ‘voice’ as writers. Click to hear our results.

Today I watched our children in set 5 using skipping to learn their 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
Mrs Ferry and Mrs Phillingham swung the skipping rope and each child had to skip while everybody chanted. It was a great lesson and everyone really enjoyed themselves.
